Seismic protection for a data centre, and for the containers too
Metallic seismic plinths for Repsol's main data centre in Peru, and seismic pads under its containerised data centres: the same all-metal technology for a room and for a box.

1The challenge
Two kinds of data centre, one earthquake zone
Repsol ran its main data centre in Peru alongside data centres built into containers. Both sat in a seismic zone, and both held IT equipment that vibration and shock can damage long before anything falls over.
2The solution
Plinths in the room, pads under the containers
In the main data centre the racks stand on all-metal seismic plinths. The containers sit on Container Pads: 6 to 14 double vertical suspensions with heavy-duty springs and 100% stainless steel energy absorbers, anchored to both the concrete floor and the container.
3The result
The same protection, wherever the servers are
The container pads carry up to 16,000 kg (S1) or 30,000 kg (S2) per container at a natural frequency of 4 to 6 Hz, low enough to isolate the container from ground vibration and earthquakes. In the same year Silentflex also supplied individual metal vibration mounts to Repsol in Venezuela.
