Anti-vibration mounts for transformers

A transformer hums at 100 Hz on a 50 Hz grid, day and night. In a building, that hum reaches the next rooms and the neighbours through the structure.

What to consider

  • At 100 Hz, fairly stiff mounts isolate well: the point is to stop the hum reaching the slab.
  • Very large transformers: a floating slab under the transformer, as in Endesa's substations.
  • In seismic zones, with restraint and calculated anchors.
