110 racks from different makers on one seismic plinth system
All-metal seismic plinths for the 110 racks of Telefónica's main data centre in Peru, a high seismic zone. One design fits racks from different manufacturers.

1The challenge
A data centre in an earthquake zone
Peru is one of the most seismic countries in the world. In a data centre an earthquake does not need to knock a rack over to do damage: peak accelerations above 0.5 g can break disks and make data unreadable. The 110 racks came from different manufacturers, in different sizes, and all had to be protected.
2The solution
Plinths on the floor surface
Silentflex installed all-metal plinths on the surface of the floor, one under each rack. Two linked frames absorb vertical and horizontal energy, with heavy-duty springs backed by stainless steel energy absorbers. The plinths adapt to every rack size, are non-conductive and allow little side movement, so cables stay connected.
3The result
One standard design for the whole room
Every rack, whatever its make, stands on the same plinth design, protected in all six degrees of freedom. The units are reusable: when racks change, the plinths move with them.
