Power generation and substations
Power plants, substations, transformers, renewables and oil and gas plants that run day and night.
Points on the drawing
Listen to the plant
Start the transformers or the pumps and hear what reaches the control room.
Noise reduction
– dB(A)
The transformer hums non-stop and the hum reaches the control room. On a floating slab it stays at the transformer.
The pumps shake the ground and the pipes. One floating slab under the station cuts it for all of them.
Best with headphones. Sound synthesised from typical spectra, not a recording.
1Turbines and generator sets
The problem
Gas and steam turbines and generator sets turn non-stop: vibration, structural fatigue and a risk of misalignment.
What we fit
All-metal isolators, double springs with restraint or a floating slab under the machine, depending on its weight and speed.
Typical choice
Vibration mounts 954202-95420350–7,000 kg · 11–22 Hz
Anti-vibration floating slab1–4.5 Hz
Double springs with retention80–1,460 kg · 7–9 HzThe final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
2Exhausts and hot pipework
The problem
Turbine exhausts and gas ducts work at hundreds of degrees and expand: rubber cannot cope and rigid supports fatigue.
What we fit
Telescopic supports and all-metal isolators that isolate vibration and let the pipe expand.
Typical choice
S501 exhaust pipe vibration mount20–7,000 kg · 10–25 Hz
Anti-vibration metal cushion0–3,000 kg · 10–35 HzThe final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
3Transformers and substation
The problem
A transformer hums continuously at 100 Hz. The hum passes through the floor to the control room and nearby buildings.
What we fit
A floating slab under the transformer or transformer mounts under its base, as in Endesa's substations.
Typical choice
Proven in power plants and substations: Endesa (2011–2023), about 200 floating slabs for transformers.
The final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
4Switchboards and control rooms
The problem
Switchboards, UPS units and control equipment must keep working after an earthquake too, above all in nuclear power plants.
What we fit
Qualified seismic plinths (IEEE 344, as at Krško) and isolators for containers and equipment rooms.
Typical choice
Non-Raised Floor Plinth, seismic plinth for racks100–1,500 kg · 4–5 Hz
Container Pad Seismic Vibration Isolator100–10,000 kg · 3–9 HzThe final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
5Pumps and pumping stations
The problem
Feed, circulation or crude-oil pumps make the ground and the pipework of the whole plant vibrate.
What we fit
A floating slab under the whole pumping station or restrained isolators under each pump.
Typical choice
Anti-vibration floating slab1–4.5 Hz
Machine levelling feet25–7,000 kg · 15 Hz
Equal-frequency vibration mount4–3,125 kg · 2–8 Hz
Double springs with retention80–1,460 kg · 7–9 HzThe final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
6Cooling
The problem
Chillers, cooling towers and heat exchangers have fans and compressors that vibrate on the structure.
What we fit
Double springs with restraint, which isolate the equipment and hold it in wind or earthquakes.
Typical choice
The final choice depends on the load per mount, the speed and the environment. An engineer confirms it with you.
